A cultural leap into the past in the heart of the forest in South Finistère

Visit Saint-Maurice site includes 123 ha of woodland, moorland, salt meadows and grazed meadows on the banks of the Laïta coastal river, in the Laïta forest. Clohars-Carnoët. Founded in the 12th century, the Abbey is surrounded by history, a symbol of Breton heritage and heritage. 
On a guided or self-guided tour, you can discover the history of these remains, the oldest of which date back to the 13th century, learn about the life of Cistercian monks in the Middle Ages in the permanent exhibition, and contemplate the silhouette of the hundred-year-old redwoods.

A listed landscape owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral, the Saint Maurice abbey site is also a great place to observe flora and fauna, between land and sea. You'll be able to observe many different types of vegetation, from carnivorous plants to lichens, as well as many protected species.

As the seasons go by, you'll see hundreds of different bird species occupying the grounds. In winter, snipe feed and rest a few meters away from the observers, while in spring several species of woodpecker, including the black woodpecker, drum on the old trees. In summer, hundreds of seagulls come to rest in the Anse de Saint-Maurice, and at night, the ballet of bats passes almost unnoticed over the pond. Bats can be observed in the heart of the abbey.
